Ichiji-kinrin

Acrylic spray paint, wheat paste, paper on canvas
The focus of this piece is the large collage illustration of Amida Buddha wearing a VR headset. The stenciled syllable is "Boron," which is the seed syllable of the supreme Buddha that is said to reside in the lump of flesh on the crown of an enlightened being and is named "Ichiji-kinrin." In this piece, the supreme Buddha takes the form of a generic anime girl, suggesting that modern technology and its imagery influences how one might perceive enlightenment. Working with bright green paint allowed for a contrast with the monochromatic poster and background, while also providing a somewhat "computerized" look to the hand-cut stencil image. This work expresses the idea that technology is not necessarily a hindrance to higher levels of wakeful, self-realization.
