One reason for undertaking the path of the yamabushi in the 21st century is to atone (at-one) for the Anthropocene. We seek to explore what we have in common with each other, with nature, with vast structures seen and unseen in order to experience a sense of resonance and empathy and realize wakefulness. By training in the ancient ways, in an era marked by poor communication, environmental destruction, and social fragmentation, we aim to elicit an enlightened response. Art practice demands a transformation that is an extension of the simple truth that we have survived for thousands of years because of rituals.
